The Kirov-Class Escort Carrier, (or CVE) Is a small ship designed to carry a substantial number of fightercraft for low cost, and acts more as a platform for getting them into battle and launching them than the true fleet center piece that a fleet carrier would provide.

Traditionally, the hull classification code CVE was said by those manning them to stand for, "Combustible, Vulnerable and Expendable," and this remains more or less true. The Kirov is protected both by it's fighters and five 15mm CIWS turrets, but it remains a rear line ship and her shields and armor are not to par with a real warship.

She can carry as many fighters as the crew dares to cram aboard, but the average is twelve, leaving at that point little room for maintenence to take place, and the ships are notorious for being cramped, uncomfortable environments to work in, though the crew quarters in the ships "island," are thankfully as spacious as those aboard larger ships.
